The Art of Middle Eastern Dance
Ya Amar School of Dance offers instruction of Raqs Sharqi (commonly referred to as Bellydance) as well as various styles of social/folkloric Middle Eastern dance. Our instructors are known not only for their exceptional technique and teaching methods, but also their in-depth knowledge of cultural context and history. Classes are offered for all levels of students, whether you are stepping into your first class or you're a seasoned dancer with years under your hipscarf. We offer a warm and welcoming experience to all our students, with classes that are fun, dynamic, and challenge both your body and mind.

And intermediate class for the Sagat lovers - we'll review and drill technique, and play along with some classic Egyptian songs (shaabi, folklore, classic...)

Sagat Technique Level 1 (Beginner) - finger cymbals
For those looking to start learning the musician style of playing Sagat, this is for you! learn the basic sounds and techniques, and put them into patterns for practice.

Specialty Workshop: Musicality and Expression to the music of Oum Kalthoum
Let's explore the melodies and emotions of Oum Kalthoum's beautifully rich songs, and find ways to authentically express the music in our performances.

Be sure to add in the "notes" section your email address, and the date/time of the class you wish to attend if purchasing a single class. Once I've receive the payment, you'll be sent a link which allows you to join the class(es) on Zoom. Please be sure to register and pay for the class at least 24 hours in advance to allow time for processing. *etransfer option available for Canadians*
CONNECT TO ZOOM AND TEACHABLE
LIVE CLASSES: You'll receive an email with the link to Teachable for your course, you'll find the Zoom class link and password in the course curriculum.
Once the class has started make sure you “mute” your microphone in the Zoom platform. We will stop for questions every 10-15min, where you'll be able to turn on your mic. You can choose to join with or without activating your video, but remember I won't be able to give corrections and feedback if I can't see you. After you've registered, you'll be sent a link to the Teachable website which allows you to view all the recorded classes included in your package. Specialty Workshop can be viewed for 2 weeks, and monthly pass classes are viewable for the month you register plus a week. note: purchase of a single class does not come with recording access.
